Is the entertainment and media industry the answer to our unemployment woes?

It's a fact - not every one can land a great job in the conservative world of accounting, banking or university professorship. Not everyone can start their own law firm, medical practice or engineering company. With millions of graduates being churned out of tertiary institutions every year around the world, we are currently facing a scenario where there are more graduates than jobs on the market.

This is a desperate situation that calls for some radical thinking. Maybe it's time we stopped focusing only on conservative career paths and dared to explore the vast opportunities available in the entertainment and media industry.

According to  the site TechDirt, "the entertainment industry is growing both in terms of revenue and content. We split the report up into video & film, books, music and video games -- and all four segments are showing significant growth (not shrinking) over the last decade. All of them are showing tremendous opportunity. The amount of content that they're all producing is growing at an astounding rate (which again, is the most important thing). But revenue, too, is growing..."

And here's the good news: Lots of professionals are required for every new book, film, music, video game or television production, and you can be guaranteed that you'll find a job there that fits your skills and qualifications. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be a singer, actor or film director to make it in this ever-growing industry. From fashion stylists, to hairdressers, to sound engineers, to scriptwriters, to caterers - everyone can make a living in the exciting world of entertainment and media.
